The surname Collins has a number of probable origins both in Britain and Ireland. So, where do we belong? Irish or English? Tracing our heritage is not an easy task.
Little is known of Paul Collins, the matriarch of the Collins ancestry. Records indicate that Paul had a son Joseph (Joe) Henry Collins aged 23 who married Cecilia Daly aged 18 on the 24th February 1873. They had 9 children whose descendants are scattered throughout the world - India, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates and New Zealand, Sri Lanka to name a few.
Back in 2017, a casual conversation started the journey of connecting the generations of Collins. The first annual get together in Melbourne in October 2018 brought together both Peter and Victor Collins’ families some 5th generations of family members.
The eagerness to connect continued to unfold in 2019 creating Collins Connect. 2019 congregated descendants from Alexander Collins, Adelaide (Collins) Fernandez, Peter Collins, Joseph Collins and Victor Collins. A total of 105 family members came together to celebrate ‘Collins Connect’ with many surprises, curiosity and lots of stories shared.
